As an international school in Shibuya ward, Jingumae International Exchange School (JIES) celebrates Shibuya Peace Day every year.
This year some students at JIES decided to make peace-themed art. The fifth and sixth graders wrote messages of peace and folded them into cranes that will be sent to a school in California. The first grade students used multicoloured paper that they folded into cranes, which were hung at different levels. The third grade students made peace-themed posters, and the fourth grade students gave an oral presentation, in Japanese, about peace.
The fourth graders were invited to meet the mayor of Shibuya and present their artwork to him. They also wrote speeches in both English and Japanese about exchange activities in Jingumae International Exchange School and presented their speeches to the mayor.
They were very excited to be part of such a great experience, and were fascinated to see that the peace projects from last year are still on display outside the mayor’s office. — KENAN ULU
