To celebrate Shibuya Peace Day (October 1st) some students at Jingumae International Exchange School (JIES) decided to make some artwork along the theme of “peace.”
The fourth, fifth, and sixth graders wrote messages of peace and folded them into cranes that will be sent to one school in Hawaii and another in Venezuela. The first grade students made their own multicoloured paper that they then folded into cranes and hung at different levels from a hanger. The third grade students made peace-themed vase art, and the fourth graders made “peace snowflakes.”
The fifth grade students were invited to meet the mayor of Shibuya, and presented some artwork to him. They wrote short speeches about what peace means to them and also presented those to him.
The school community was very excited to get to participate in such a wonderful experience, and were thrilled to see that the JIES peace projects from last year are still being displayed outside the mayor’s office. — KENAN ULU
