October welcomed Hitokoe Yokohama International School’s (HYIS) young aspiring Olympians to “Move to the Beat! Go, Go Olympics! (The Road to 2020)” during their annual sports day. HYIS families and guests spent a pleasant day at school, and participated in the annual tug-of-war. Students and their parents also performed to “Every day Is a Moving Day,” “This Is the Way…Walking, Walking,” “Zumba,” and “Cup of Life.” Seven years from now the HYISians will not just be hearing about the Olympics, but will likely be at the scene.
Later in the month, there was much excitement as the “dressing up” season arrived. The children honed their creative imaginations as the school community held a Halloween parade.
Coming up this month is the school’s Harvest Festival and Thanksgiving celebration, as well as a “Global and Cultural Performance,” with a peace theme, during which the children will share their newfound knowledge of a variety of countries, as well as sing and dance to music from Italy, Kenya, the Philippines, and Australia.
HYIS offers after-school English lessons and clubs such as steel pan, karate, and hula throughout the school year, with private and group lessons for students aged two years to adult. Parents are welcome to join school tours and information sessions, and children are welcome to join a trial lesson. Call 045-363-3356 or see http://www.hyis.org. — PATRICIA ALDANA
