With such a big topic of “Shapes and Colours” at J’s International School last month, it was hard to cover everything teachers had planned! The theme tied in beautifully with Valentine’s Day and friendship week. Throughout the month the children spent any spare time they had cutting, gluing, drawing, and colouring as they made cute Valentine’s cards for friends and loved ones. Once finished, the cards were put directly into a special “LOVE” mailbox. The “mailman” came and delivered all the mail during a fancy dress Valentine’s ball. After reading the letters and cards, it was time to dance. Gentlemen in suits bowed cordially asking, “May I have this dance?” and ladies in their beautiful dresses curtsied and moved gracefully.
Apart from creativity, the month put extra focus on social skills, individuality, and friendship. The weather outside was cold but the classrooms were filled with warmth and laughter. One fun activity excluded the children’s sense of sight, only using the sense of touch to identify shapes, which brought a whole new dimension to the shapes.
