Dinosaurs were the big topic at J’s last month. This theme is a favourite for children and teachers alike, full of information and images that tickle the imagination. “I think I’m a carnivore,” one of the children thought out loud, looking at his lunch.
Students learned that even though it took a couple of hours to make their own fossils, this is not necessarily the case with real fossils.
The children chipped, scraped, and dug away at a large clay mass, uncovering many “real” bones, and were excited to see a whole life-size baby dino skeleton finally formed. By the end of the month, palaeontologist was on the list of “what I want to be when I grow up.” Staff anticipate and welcome this list lengthening as the months go by. — MANA ORTIZ
