A new English-speaking international preschool has opened in the Omotesando area. Chateau Bon Bon Chateau School for children newborn up to six years old is open weekdays from 9am–3pm, with extended after-school hours and open weekends until 9pm for children up to 12 years old.
The school program aims to encourage children, who are called “diplomats,” to explore a variety of cultures and to develop their own creativity with their “ambassadors,” who are required to speak more than three languages. Children come to school with a “passport” that enables them to learn about different cultures and develop their own creativity using materials from all over the world.
The curriculum is based on worldwide methods that include Montessori, Indian maths, Arabic music, French cuisine, Japanese science, and Chinese calligraphy, depending on the continent of the month. With its strong emphasis on providing a multicultural creative environment, children are provided with unique materials to study phonics, linguistics, world literature, reading, writing, communicating, maths, science, PE, and arts in English.
Each day consists of workshops and activities with a daily goal, and the school hopes to incorporate the IB (International Baccalaureate) Programme in the near future.
“Diplomat’s” developments are reported in a daily journal that is emailed in the evening to parents. The journal includes individual photos and the child’s progress in five areas according to that day’s objectives: motivation, academic skills, communication skills, sharing, and motor skills. Progress is reviewed every three months. A 100% organic lunch is available.
