Autumn is a busy period on the Aichi International School (AIS) calendar, with many annual events being held. First, there was the Halloween party, which again saw the school decked out in black, with inflatables galore all around the building.
This was followed by the “Flat Orca” party. Every year the Orca students of the AIS kindergarten read and then copy the actions of Stanley, from the Jeff Brown book Flat Stanley, by mailing a flat, life-size, paper copy of themselves to a country outside Japan. This year, Flat Orcas visited Hong Kong, the Czech Republic, and the United States, to name but a few places. Following their safe return to AIS, the Flat Orcas were displayed in the school, with parents coming in to check out what adventures the Flat Orcas had gotten up to.
Last month AIS had a potluck Thanksgiving party, with parents providing a variety of food and drinks to accompany the traditional turkey, potatoes, and all the trimmings. Lastly, students have been busy preparing for the annual Christmas Show, held on December 9. This year the story will be “The Phantom of the AIS Christmas Show.” — MARK REED
